Abstract The paper presented a survey of existing equipment on various known scientific institutions in Metro Manila with the purpose of determining if the students of BS Astronomy Technology in Rizal Technological University can conduct proper research about astronomy and astrophysics here in the Philippines. With the data gathered, the researchers will be able to conclude if the Filipino Astronomers are ready to conduct highly scientific astronomical research. The researchers used the descriptive method, in this study, to assess the state of astronomy instrumentation in the Philippines. This method enabled the researchers to describe and interpret qualitatively the study. The respondents from this study came from different institutions located at Metro Manila who the researchers think may have the capability to do astronomy types of researches based on their instruments that they have. Specifically there were six (6) respondents who participated in this study. The structured research-made questionnaire was used as the main instrument in gathering data. The initial step was to determine the purpose of the study and the corresponding respondents for that purpose. Results of the study show that:
Based on the study, most of the instruments in the institutions can be used for Observational Astronomy. Five out of the six institutions have telescopes and half of the respondents have filters and CCD cameras which could enhance whatever output an observer might get. The other respondent focuses more on Geology which future researchers interested in Planetary Geology might consider interesting. UP-NIGS performs meteorite composition analysis using their sophisticated spectrum analyzers and it might as well assist a researcher on his or her other concerns on other geological phenomena. Majority of the respondents agreed that they lack qualified individuals/man-power in their respective institutions. As mentioned in the first part of this research work, Rizal Technological University lately produced three graduates of BS Astronomy Technology and only this institution offers the said Bachelor's degree. So the graduates of the said university are the ones capable of utilizing astronomy-related instruments and improve the institutions' goals and vision. This study recommends the following:
